World No Tobacco Day: Personal Stories of Triumph Over Smoking Addiction

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, observed on May 31, we interviewed several individuals who successfully conquered their smoking habits, transitioning towards a better and healthier life. Anushka S, one of the individuals we spoke to, initially started smoking casually with her friends. However, what began as a casual habit soon turned into a four-year-long addiction. Recognizing the detrimental impact on her health, Anushka made the decision to quit smoking three months ago. She distanced herself from smoking companions and avoided smoking zones, successfully leaving the habit behind. Anushka expresses contentment and firmly resolves never to return to smoking.

Shakeb Z, an IT professional, battled with heavy smoking for six years before successfully quitting four years ago. Initially succumbing to peer pressure during his college days, Shakeb gradually became addicted, consuming an entire pack of cigarettes daily. However, a significant shift in his perspective on life and an unwavering willpower enabled him to break free from the addiction. Four years later, Shakeb remains smoke-free and firmly resolved to never relapse.

K Siddharth, another individual who shared his journey, overcame the grip of chain smoking. Initially smoking 3-5 cigarettes a day, his habit escalated to an alarming 20-25 cigarettes daily over time. Encouraged by loved ones concerned for his well-being, Siddharth embarked on a two-month-long journey to quit smoking. Through gradual progress, he successfully abstained from smoking for four years, emphasizing the positive impact it has had on his life.

Zuhab Shaikh, who started smoking during his teenage years in an attempt to appear cool, has been on a journey to quit for the past six years. Recognizing the lack of benefits, Zuhab remains confident that he will eventually quit completely, underscoring the ongoing process of breaking free from the addiction.
